What is Preeclampsia?

Postpartum preeclampsia is a serious condition that occurs typically within 48 hours post-delivery but can develop up to six weeks postpartum.

Symptoms of postpartum preeclampsia include:

Extremely high blood pressure 
(>140/90 mm Hg) 
Blurred vision, sensitivity to light, or temporary vision loss
Excess protein in your urine
Severe headaches
Upper right belly pain, typically 
under your ribs
Shortness of breath
Nausea and vomitingst
Decreased urine output

Postpartum preeclampsia can cause seizures, stroke, excess fluid in your lungs, blood clots, and HELLP syndrome, which is a serious condition affecting your blood and liver.

If you experience any of the symptoms listed above, contact your provider immediately; go to the emergency room, or in severe situations, call 911.
